Chocolate cereal bars
Hey foodies!
Here in Fribourg, we're already past the halfway point of our school holidays and it's time to start thinking about the back-to-school season...
So I have a great recipe to offer you to satisfy those little hunger pangs at break time or during family sports outings.
I'm sharing a recipe for chocolate cereal bars. :-)
You'll see, it's super simple to make and very quick. Prep time 15 min and baking time 20 min.

All you'll need is a silicone financier mould or a mini log cake mould.
I tested both moulds and honestly both are perfect for these cereal bars!
To make this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:
- 30g sunflower seeds
- 80g rolled oats
- 80g puffed cereals
- 80g chocolate chips
- 50g butter
- 120g sweetened condensed milk
Let's get started!
To begin, pour 30g of sunflower seeds, 80g of rolled oats and 80g of puffed cereals into a bowl.
I found this little mix of puffed cereals at Coop and I think it's great!

Once the ingredients are well mixed, pour 50g of butter and 120g of sweetened condensed milk into a saucepan.

Bring these two ingredients to a boil then pour the liquid over your cereals.

Stir with a spoon.
Once the mixture has cooled slightly, add 40g of chocolate chips. I used baking-stable milk chocolate chips. So handy!

Preheat your oven to 160°C, fan-assisted.
Then fill the cavities of your two moulds. One recipe is perfect for a financier mould + a mini log cake mould.
If you only have one mould, bake in two batches. The mixture can wait without any problem. :-)
Then pour the remaining chocolate chips (40g) on top of the cereal bars.

Press down with a fork so that the cereal bars hold together well once baked.
Bake your cereal bars for 20 minutes in your oven preheated to 160°C, fan-assisted.

Once the 20 minutes are up, take them out of the oven and let them cool. Don't unmould them straight away! The cereal bars would break. Wait until they have cooled down.

Hide them quickly because I can guarantee you, your kids will love them! ;-) Mine didn't last more than two days and my daughter flat out told me: "Mum, next time double the recipe!" Little hungry ones, I tell you!
TIPS: You can easily halve the amount of chocolate chips if you'd like to make lighter cereal bars.
You can also use dark chocolate or white chocolate chips, depending on your taste. The same goes for the puffed cereals, which come in many varieties. Enjoy yourself! :-)
Have a lovely Sunday!
Karin
