Food colour sprays
With food colour sprays you can transform cakes, cupcakes, pralines and chocolate in seconds. Velvet-effect sprays made of cocoa butter and food colouring create a fine suede look on mousse cakes and entremets – in white, black, red, pink, green, light blue, light brown and dark brown. Metallic sprays come in gold, silver, rose gold, bronze, ruby, red, blue and green, and glitter sprays in light and dark gold, silver and red, some in a handy pump spray. Finally, the clear edible glaze spray adds a beautiful shine.
Tips for spraying food colour
- Cold for velvet: the velvet effect forms on very cold or frozen surfaces, so spray mousse cakes and ice cream cakes straight from the freezer.
- Warm, shake and keep your distance: stand velvet-effect sprays briefly in warm water (around 25–35 °C) before use, shake the can well and spray from a little distance in even strokes; too close and drips form easily.
- With a stencil: place a stencil on the cake and spray over it with metallic colour to create patterns and lettering.
- Shine and protection: the glaze spray makes chocolate, fondant and marzipan gleam and protects them from drying out.
Frequently asked questions about food colour sprays
How does metallic spray differ from glitter spray?
Metallic sprays cover the surface with an even, shimmering film of colour with good coverage. Glitter sprays, on the other hand, add a fine sparkling mist over cakes and pralines that are already decorated.
How do I apply the glaze spray correctly?
Spray a thin layer in a well-ventilated room from about 25 to 30 cm away. Two very light coats are better than one heavy one, so nothing runs.
