Traditional bread and savoury bakes
Whether for breakfast, a picnic or an aperitif, homemade bread is always a treat. Our Milk rolls are among the most popular recipes on the blog – soft, fluffy and perfect plain, with butter and jam or as sandwiches. A classic Toast bread, Hamburger buns and Homemade Pretzels are equally rewarding to bake.
For sharing, try a Focaccia or a colourful Vegetable Focaccia, a Savoury brioche, the Fir-bread with garlic or the Pull-apart bread with fresh wild garlic pesto. The Vully Cake with Bacon is a traditional speciality from the Three Lakes region that should not be missing from any Swiss table.
Sweet pastries and brioches
At Cakelicious we love Cinnamon Rolls, a soft brioche with a cinnamon filling that is a hit for breakfast and afternoon snacks alike. Other favourites include:
- Hazelnut Snails and Chocolate brioche
- Sils croissants and Sugar Buns
- Berlin Doughnuts and Raspberry Donuts
- Squash Rolled Brioche and Pear Vin Cuit Cake for autumn
Swiss and Fribourg traditions are close to our hearts: bake Mini cuchaules, the saffron brioche enjoyed at Bénichon, a Sugar tart, a King's Crown for Epiphany or a Grittibänz in December. And if you dare, our Reverse Puff Pastry recipe explains every step for a flaky homemade dough.
Tip: give yeast dough enough time to rise in a warm, draught-free place. Patience is the key to a light, airy crumb.
