How to apply your cake topper
A topper looks best on a smooth, chilled surface of fondant, buttercream or ganache. Brush fondant very lightly with water or a little piping gel so the wafer paper sticks. If the topper comes on a backing sheet, peel it off carefully. Handle the topper only with dry hands, place it on the cake and smooth it from the centre outwards to avoid air bubbles. On whipped cream or very moist creams the topper is sensitive to moisture, so add it just before serving or apply a thin protective layer of chocolate first. Until you use it, keep the topper dry, flat and in its packaging.
What to look for when buying
Choose the size to suit your cake: round toppers come for example in 15.5 cm or 20 cm, while rectangular versions such as the 21 x 15 cm Stitch topper or the rectangular Spiderman topper suit traybakes and rectangular cakes. Leave a little space around the edge to decorate with buttercream dots, sprinkles or the birthday child's name. If you prefer fondant to wafer paper, choose the fondant toppers «Unicorn» or «Joyeux Anniversaire».

How long before the party should I add the topper?
On fondant and firm buttercream, a few hours in advance is fine. On whipped cream, add it just before serving so the wafer paper does not go soft.
Can I cut the topper to size?
Yes, wafer paper toppers can be trimmed with clean scissors, for example if you only want to cut out one character for cupcakes.
