Rainbow Dust Progel gel colours are among the most popular food colours for cake decorating. The handy 25 g tube makes them easy to dose cleanly and precisely, and thanks to their high concentration you achieve strong shades with very little colour – without making sugarpaste or buttercream too soft.
Where to use Progel
Progel is suitable for many classic baking and decorating applications:
- sugarpaste, flower paste and marzipan
- buttercream, cream fillings and royal icing
- cake, cupcake and sponge batters
- macarons and meringues
For chocolate and other very high-fat mixtures, we recommend oil-based colours such as Colour Mill instead.
Colour range and sets
Around 30 shades are available – from core colours such as red, yellow, black and navy blue, through natural tones like brown and ochre caramel, to pastel pink, mint green or mulberry. If you need several colours, a set is better value: the Essential set contains the key primary colours, the Pastel set soft tones and the Rainbow set bright rainbow shades.
Tips for use
Add the colour in small amounts and knead or stir it in well. Intense shades such as red or black often develop after a short resting time. Close the tube tightly after use so the gel does not dry out.
Frequently asked questions about Progel
Does Progel change the consistency of sugarpaste?
Because the colour is highly concentrated, you only need a little, so sugarpaste and creams largely keep their consistency.
Can I mix Progel colours?
Yes, the shades can be mixed with each other to create your own tones.
Is Progel suitable for chocolate?
Fat-soluble colours are better suited to chocolate, for example oil-based Colour Mill.
