Polystyrene cake dummies (in Switzerland often called sagex) are a bakers' secret helper: they look like real cakes, yet they are light, hold their shape and can be reused as long as they are not damaged. What is a cake dummy for? Display cakes in a shop window or at a trade stand, photo shoots, and practising covering and piping techniques. It is especially handy for tiered wedding cakes: the cake looks more impressive even though only some tiers are real. That saves ingredients and reduces waste.

Which height for what?
A standard cake is about 10 cm high, so for realistic tiers choose Cake dummies 10 cm high. This range offers the widest choice of diameters and, together with 15 cm, is our best seller. Tips for covering with fondant
- Lightly sand or smooth the edges beforehand.
- Brush the dummy thinly with water, vegetable fat or cake gel so that Fondant and gum paste sticks well. Products from Edible glue & fondant aids help too.

Yes. Remove any bumps, lightly moisten the surface and cover the dummy just like a real cake.
Can I put a real cake on a dummy?
Yes, as a real tier. Always place a cake board and supports in between and avoid direct contact with the polystyrene.
Can I reuse a cake dummy?
Yes, as long as it is undamaged you can cover it again and again, which makes it ideal for practising too.
