Fir Muesli Bar
Muesli bars in fir tree shape: a recipe for the whole family
Hello foodies,
give your morning and afternoon snack a festive touch during the holidays: a fir muesli bar, coated in green and decorated with balls and stars.
A simple, fun recipe that you can make with the whole family: the kids get to do the decorating. For the mixture we use a third of our recipe for muesli bars with chocolate; that makes exactly six fir trees.

Ingredients
Muesli bar mixture (⅓ of the basic recipe)
Step by step
Baking
Prepare the mixture
Prepare the mixture for the muesli bars: mix the sunflower seeds, rolled oats and puffed cereal, bring the butter and condensed milk to the boil, pour it over, stir and fold in the chocolate drops. You will find the detailed instructions in the recipe for muesli bars with chocolate.
Preheat the oven to 160 °C fan.
Fill into the fir tree mold
Fill the mixture into the Christmas tree silicone mold and press it down firmly so the fir trees are stable after baking.
Bake for 20 minutes
Bake the fir trees for 20 minutes at 160 °C fan.
Let cool completely
Let them cool completely before taking them out of the mold. While still warm they would break apart.
Release the fir trees, then wash out the mold and dry it thoroughly. It will be needed again shortly.
Decorating
Prepare the chocolate flavour pens
Place the yellow and the red Chocolate flavour pen in a Measuring cup with hot water for about 10 minutes so the mixture becomes liquid.
Fill in the stars and balls
In the clean, dry mold first fill the stars with the yellow pen, then the balls with the red one. Afterwards put the mold in the freezer for 10 minutes.
You are working here in the mold, not on the fir trees, which is why it really needs to be dry beforehand.
Melt the Deco melts
Warm 100 g of green Deco melts in the microwave for 30 seconds at 600 watts.
You do not need to temper Deco melts: just melt them and you are done. Whatever is left over can be reused several times.
Insert the fir trees
Fill the melted Deco melts into a Piping bag and pipe them into the cavities of the mold. Place the muesli bar directly into it so it sticks to the Deco melts.
Chill and unmold
Put the mold in the freezer for 10 minutes and then release the fir trees. Done.
In a well sealed tin they keep for up to a week.

So they turn out perfectly every time
Between baking and decorating, you use the same mold again. Wash it out and dry it really thoroughly: neither the Chocolate flavour pens nor the Deco melts will stick to a damp mold.
Unlike couverture, you simply melt them in the microwave and work with them straight away. Whatever is left over can be allowed to set and melted again next time.
The muesli bars only hold together once they are completely cold. Turn them out too soon and you get broken pieces instead of firs.
Frequently asked questions
One third of our basic recipe fills the six firs of the Silicone mold. If you prepare the whole batch, bake the remaining two thirds as normal bars in a financier or mini bûche mould.
Yes. The green coating is decoration: the muesli bars taste good without it too. Instead of Deco melts you can use melted chocolate, but then you have to temper it.
Up to a week in a well sealed tin. After that the muesli bars turn soft.
