Product Features
This round polystyrene cake dummy (Ø 45 cm, 10 cm high) looks just like a real cake once covered. It is also known as a styrofoam cake dummy, fake cake, dummy cake or display cake. Made from expanded polystyrene (EPS), it is light, stable and can be decorated like a real cake with fondant, marzipan or buttercream.
10 cm is the height of a classic cake. Your display cake looks particularly realistic, and real and fake tiers combine seamlessly – nobody can tell which tier is polystyrene. At Ø 45 cm it is a large base tier for impressive wedding, event and exhibition cakes.
For a tiered cake of the same height, this dummy is also available in Ø 10 cm, Ø 15 cm, Ø 20 cm, Ø 25 cm, Ø 30 cm, Ø 35 cm, Ø 40 cm and Ø 50 cm. All sizes are in cake dummies 10 cm high, the full range in Polystyrene cake dummies.
What is a polystyrene cake dummy used for?
- Display cakes for shop windows, trade fairs, photo shoots or wedding fairs
- Bigger wedding cakes: only some tiers are real – fewer ingredients and no waste
- Practice: covering with fondant, sharp edges, piping and sugar flowers without time pressure
- Cake decorating classes and workshops where the cake has to stay beautiful for a long time
Tips for covering
- Lightly sand the edges or round them with a smoother so the fondant does not tear.
- Moisten the dummy thinly with water, vegetable shortening or piping gel so the fondant sticks well.
- Never place a real tier directly on the polystyrene: always use cake boards and, for heavy tiers, cake dowels as well.
Good to know
- Size: Ø 45 cm, height 10 cm
- Material: polystyrene / styrofoam (expanded polystyrene, EPS)
- Not edible – only place food on it with a cake board or film in between
- Reusable: an undamaged dummy can be stripped and covered again
