Polystyrene cake dummy round Ø 30 cm, 7.5 cm high

This round polystyrene cake dummy (Ø 30 cm, 7.5 cm high) looks just like a real cake once covered. It is also known as a styrofoam cake dummy, fake cake, dummy cake or display cake. Made from expanded polystyrene (EPS), it is light, stable and can be decorated like a real cake with fondant, marzipan or buttercream.

At 7.5 cm high it creates slim, elegant tiers – slightly lower than a classic cake and ideal for delicate wedding cakes, christenings and vintage-style display cakes. At Ø 30 cm it forms a stable bottom tier for further real or fake tiers on top.

What is a polystyrene cake dummy used for?

• Display cakes for shop windows, trade fairs, photo shoots or wedding fairs
• Bigger wedding cakes: only some tiers are real – fewer ingredients and no waste
• Practice: covering with fondant, sharp edges, piping and sugar flowers without time pressure
• Cake decorating classes and workshops where the cake has to stay beautiful for a long time

Tips for covering

• Lightly sand the edges or round them with a smoother so the fondant does not tear.
• Moisten the dummy thinly with water, vegetable shortening or piping gel so the fondant sticks well.
• Never place a real tier directly on the polystyrene: always use cake boards and, for heavy tiers, cake dowels as well.
