Evenly rolled dough is the secret of beautiful cookies that all finish baking at the same time. In this category you will find rolling pins in wood, metal, silicone and plastic from 20 to 50 cm, including a rolling pin with precision ball bearings and professional rolling pins with a 30 or 40 cm rolling surface. For exact thicknesses there are guide rings, small rolling pins with spacer rings and dough spacers for 1.5, 3, 5 or 10 mm. Embossed rolling pins with stars or hearts, the "Home made" pattern roller and mini pattern rollers with Christmas motifs press the design straight into the dough.
Tips for rolling and embossing
- Roll from the centre outwards: turn round doughs regularly and roll rectangular ones in two directions. If the dough shrinks back, let it rest briefly instead of pulling it.
- Dust correctly: a little flour for most doughs, cornflour for fondant and marzipan, sugar for Brunsli. Alternatively, roll the dough between two sheets of baking paper so you need no extra flour.
- Smooth first, then emboss: bring the dough to the right thickness with a plain rolling pin, then roll the embossed pin over it once with even pressure.
- Chill before baking: chill embossed dough for 15 minutes so the pattern stays sharp.
Place the dough spacers to the left and right of the dough and roll on top of them; the acrylic and plastic spacers are 35 cm long each.
Frequently asked questions about rolling pins
Wood, metal or silicone: which rolling pin suits me?
Beech is the classic for cookie dough, tart pastry and pizza; with a little flour nothing sticks. The metal rolling pin has a smooth surface that little sticks to. The silicone rolling pin with a metal core is light and heat resistant up to 200 °C. For fondant, the smooth plastic pins and the 50 cm non-stick rolling pin are ideal.
Which guide rings fit which rolling pin?
The six guide rings in 2, 4 and 6 mm fit the Decora rolling pins with a 4.5 cm diameter, and the eight guide rings fit the 25 cm Decora rolling pin. The small 22.8 cm Wilton rolling pin and the small 22.5 cm Städter rolling pin already come with rings for 1.5 and 3 mm.
