Fondant essentials
There are 29 products.
Covering your first cake in fondant does not call for a fully stocked studio, just the right tools. Our fondant essentials bring together around 29 tools that prove their worth time and again: from rolling pins and smoothers to modelling tools, cake dowels and edible glue.
Rolling out and covering
Everything starts with a smooth rolling pin, such as the 33 cm pin or the non-stick 50 cm pin for large fondant sheets. Guide rings or spacer sticks give you an even thickness from edge to edge. A silicone mat stops the paste from sticking, and a turntable lets you smooth the covered cake all the way round with ease. You will find the right sugar paste in our Fondant and gum paste category.
- Rolling: rolling pins in 22.8, 33 and 50 cm, guide rings, spacer sticks and silicone mat
- Smoothing: Icing and Creme smoothers, 3-angle fondant smoother and adjustable sharp-edge tool
- Shaping: 6-piece modelling tool set, Sugarcraft knife, precision tweezers and extruder with 20 discs
- Support: 8 mm cake dowels, bamboo support sticks and cake leveller with adjustable wires
Modelling and decorating
For figures, bows and fine details, work on the foam pad with modelling tools and the fine needle tool. The Sugarcraft knife cuts fondant cleanly without dragging it, while the extruder creates ropes, borders and hair. Attach each piece with edible glue applied with a fine brush.
Tips for beginners
Knead the fondant until it is pliable and add a few drops of glycerine if it feels dry. Roll it out on starch rather than flour, then cover the cake without delay to avoid cracks. If you are building a tiered cake, every lower tier needs cake dowels. More specialist tools are waiting in our Fondant tools category.
With these essentials, your first fondant cake will be a pleasure to make and a joy to look at.
