To keep their shape, sugar flowers need support while they are shaped and dried. Here you will find flower formers, nails and drying stands: flower formers as a 6-piece set and in small, medium and large with 4 pieces each, a round flower former and a former for sugar flowers and leaves. The 4 cm stainless steel flower nail and the 3-piece plastic flower nail set are used to pipe roses and flowers from buttercream or royal icing, and the calyx flower nail for cup-shaped blooms. For drying there are the leaf drying stand, the former stand for sugar flowers, the stand for tulip petals and the 5-piece tulip holder set. Tips for shaping and drying
- Straight into the former: place freshly shaped petals in the former immediately while the paste is still pliable.
- Working in wire: on the grooved board, wire can be worked neatly into leaves: roll the paste over a groove so a thicker central vein remains for the wire to slide into.
- Thinning edges: on the foam pad, thin the edges with the ball end of a modelling tool until they curve gently.
- Roses on the nail: a dab of buttercream on the flower nail holds a square of baking paper in place, so you can lift off the piped rose easily and leave it to dry.
Frequently asked questions about flower formers and nails
How do I pipe a flower with the calyx flower nail?
Press a piece of foil into one of the three cups, pipe the petals with a leaf nozzle from the centre to the edge, then lift out the foil with the flower. The 9-piece plastic set consists of three cups and six stems and is also suitable for drying cup-shaped fondant flowers.
How do the flower former sets differ?
In the 6-piece set, six flowers of different sizes dry at the same time. In the small, medium and large sets with 4 pieces each, every form holds a single flower.
