Matt powder colours

Matt powder colours are the right choice when you want to shade sugar flowers delicately, give sugarpaste a natural colour gradient or tint dry mixes. As they contain no liquid, they do not change the consistency of your mixture – a big advantage with delicate recipes.

How to use powder colours
Dusting dry: use a soft brush to apply the colour to dried sugar flowers, modelled figures or sugarpaste. This creates soft transitions, for example on petal edges or for rosy cheeks on figures.
Mixing in: powder colours can be stirred into dry ingredients such as icing sugar or ground almonds – handy for macarons, where extra liquid would cause problems.
Painting: with a few drops of food-grade alcohol, such as Rejuvenator Spirit, the powder becomes a paint. The alcohol evaporates quickly, leaving only the colour behind. You will find suitable brushes in the Brushes & accessories category.
Tip: store powder colours in a dry place with the lid tightly closed, so they stay free-flowing and do not clump.
Frequently asked questions about matt powder colours
How do matt powder colours differ from metallic colours?
Matt powder colours give pure colour without sheen, whereas metallic and shimmer powders create a lustrous effect.
Can I mix powder colours with water?
For painting, food-grade alcohol works better because it evaporates quickly and does not soften sugar decorations.
What do I need Superweiss for?
Superweiss lightens other colours and is ideal for white highlights on sugarpaste and sugar decorations.
