Edouard de Beukelaer, born in 1843, began as early as 1850 in his small bakery in Antwerp, Belgium, making delicious and long-lasting biscuits. His idea was as simple as it was good: honest, uncomplicated baked goods made from the finest ingredients to make young and old connoisseurs happy. In 1870, he opened his first biscuit factory – the beginning of a success story that continues to this day.

From Antwerp to Germany – the story of the Prinzen Rolle

What Edouard de Beukelaer developed over the years became a small sensation: the double biscuit – two biscuits filled with a cocoa cream. By 1914, the company was already producing 120 different biscuits and waffles. In 1946, the first round double biscuit came to market under the name «Prince Fourré» – and a princely story began. From 1955, the Belgian baked goods also conquered Germany: Edouard de Beukelaer II founded the «Flemish Biscuit Factory E. de Beukelaer» in Kempen on the Lower Rhine. Since 1964, the double biscuit has been called Prinzen Rolle – and the story goes on. To this day, young and old connoisseurs find their favourite biscuit at De Beukelaer.

For De Beukelaer quality, only the finest ingredients and raw materials are used. The company places great importance on knowing exactly where its raw materials come from – flour and grain are sourced from mills located as close as possible to the production sites. For cocoa – one of the most important raw materials – De Beukelaer relies on sustainable cultivation: as a partner of the Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade, cocoa is purchased that has been produced using more sustainable growing methods. The Fairtrade Cocoa label means that small cocoa farmers receive stable minimum prices and the Fairtrade premium – a promise that goes beyond the plate.
