Here you will find a wide choice of number cake boxes and matching cake boards so your cakes arrive at the party safely. It can be hard to find a transport box that fits a number cake and protects it as well as possible. That is why we have put together a category especially for transporting number cakes and letter cakes: rectangular cake boxes, cake box and board sets, and rectangular and square cake boards in many sizes and colours.
Our transport tip
Our pastry chef Sophie loves making number cakes and has a tried-and-tested technique for transporting them once decorated. She places each number or letter on its own silver A4 cake board (20 x 30 cm). The board is 1.2 cm thick and easily carries the weight of a number; it also comes in gold, and you will find more sturdy bases among our Cake drums (thick boards). She then puts two A4 boards into a rectangular cake box measuring 40.6 x 30.4 x 15.2 cm. That way two digits travel safely in one box.
This tip is perfect if you run a catering service and deliver number cakes to your customers. Of course, everything depends on how big your number or letter will be. In the Number & letter cake tins category you will find handy templates for making them; our favourite is the number cake template.
Number cakes, letter cakes and the right decoration
Number cakes are a popular dessert: a shortcrust or sponge base in the shape of a number or letter, topped with piped ganache or whipped cream. Any flavour is possible, so number cakes suit birthdays, Christmas or Mother's Day. Don't forget the decoration: sugar, chocolate and wafer paper decorations complete the dessert. Fancy a recipe? - Unicorn number cake for a children's birthday
- Valentine's Day number cake, which also suits Mother's Day
- Christmas number cake instead of the classic Yule log
What to look for when buying
First measure the footprint of your number cake including the board. The cake boxes come in 40.6 x 30.4 x 15.2 cm and 45.2 x 35.2 x 15.2 cm, plus cake box and board sets such as 28 x 42 x 6 cm for flatter cakes. For boards, choose between formats such as A4 (20 x 30 cm), A3 (30 x 40 cm) and XL (35 x 45 cm) in silver or gold, thin boards of 30 x 25 cm and 40 x 30 cm in colours such as white, black, red, fuchsia, baby pink or baby blue, and square boards from 10 to 35 cm.
