Round cake boards are the classic base for cakes: they carry birthday cakes, wedding cakes, novelty cakes and cheesecakes safely from the kitchen to the buffet. In this category you will find round cake boards from Ø 10 to Ø 50 cm in white, silver, gold, black, bright colours, marble effect and wood look. To help you find the right one quickly, the round boards are split into two subcategories by thickness.

Thick or thin: two types of round cake boards

  • Cake drums (thick boards) of 12 mm for heavy cakes, fondant cakes, tiered cakes and transport: Cake drums (thick boards)
  • Thin cake boards of 2 to 4 mm for tarts, light cakes, individual tiers and cakes sold in a box: Thin cake boards

A thick cake drum does not bend, even under a heavy cake, and is easy to lift. A thin cake board is light, saves space and slips easily into a cake box.

Choosing the right size of round cake board

As a rule of thumb, choose a board about 4 to 5 cm larger than the diameter of your cake. For a cake of Ø 20 cm, a board of Ø 25 cm works well; for a cake of Ø 26 cm, a board of Ø 30 or 30.5 cm; and for a cake of Ø 30 cm, a board of Ø 35 cm. The most popular sizes are the white round cake boards Ø 25 cm and Ø 30 cm. If you hand the cake over in a box, the board must not be larger than the base of the box: a 25 x 25 cm box takes a board up to Ø 25 cm; matching boxes can be found in Square cake boxes.

Frequently asked questions about round cake boards

Which round board for a cake of Ø 24 cm?

For a cake of Ø 24 cm we recommend a board of Ø 30 cm. This leaves a border of about 3 cm all round.

When do I need a thick cake board?

A 12 mm cake drum is worth it for heavy cakes, fondant cakes, tiered cakes and whenever the cake needs to be transported.

Are there gold and black round cake boards?

Yes, as well as white and silver you will find round cake boards in gold, black, bright colours and marble effect, both thin and thick.
