Since 1845 – from Zurich’s old town to a global brand

At Cakelicious, we stock the Lindt & Sprüngli range – one of the world’s leading manufacturers of premium chocolate, with roots in Zurich. It all began in 1845 when David Sprüngli-Schwarz and his son Rudolf Sprüngli-Ammann produced the first full-length chocolate bar in German-speaking Switzerland in their small confectionery shop in Zurich’s old town. In 1879, Rodolphe Lindt, the son of a pharmacist, revolutionised chocolate-making with a groundbreaking invention: the conche. After three days and nights of continuous rolling of the chocolate mass, the world’s first silky-smooth, melt-in-the-mouth chocolate was born – an invention that has shaped the entire industry ever since.

From bean to bar – quality you can taste

Lindt & Sprüngli is one of the few chocolate manufacturers to produce its own cocoa mass from the cocoa beans it sources, thereby controlling the entire production process – from the selection and procurement of the cocoa beans to the finished product. The work of the Lindt Maîtres Chocolatiers begins with the selection of high-quality ingredients from around the world: cocoa from Ghana, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, the Dominican Republic and Peru. The recipes use special blends of cocoa bean varieties from different regions – a closely guarded secret that gives Lindt chocolates their exquisite flavour.

The Farming Program – sustainability from cultivation to bar

Lindt & Sprüngli is committed to responsible cocoa sourcing and has developed its own programme for this purpose: the Lindt & Sprüngli Farming Program. The programme pursues three main goals: strengthening the resilience of farming families, reducing the risk of child labour and preserving biodiversity and natural ecosystems. Today Lindt & Sprüngli produces premium chocolate in twelve factories in Europe and the USA – with brands such as the Golden Bunny, the Lindor praline and the Excellence chocolate bars.
