Silver cake drums

Silver cake drums are among the most versatile cake boards: silver looks elegant and neutral and suits wedding, birthday and celebration cakes alike. The thick, round board gives your cake a secure base and a beautiful presentation. Its subtle shine makes the cake stand out without competing with the decoration and turns even a simple buttercream cake into a small work of art.
Ideas and inspiration for silver cake drums
Silver is the all-rounder among cake boards. It works with cool and warm colours and can be used in every season:
- Wedding cakes and silver anniversaries: silver stands for elegance and pairs perfectly with white, blush, lilac and pearls.
- Winter and Christmas cakes: combined with blue, white and glitter, it creates a frosty, festive mood.
- Birthday and anniversary cakes: whether a milestone birthday or a company anniversary, silver looks premium and neutral.
- Novelty cakes: colourful fondant cakes look tidier on silver than on coloured boards.
Widest choice: Ø 15 to 50 cm
Among the silver cake drums you will find the widest choice in our range, from Ø 15 to Ø 50 cm, including 15, 17.5, 18, 20, 22, 22.5, 25, 27.5, 28, 30, 30.5, 33, 36, 38, 40, 45 and 50 cm. This means you will find the right board for almost every tin and every tier of a tiered cake, without compromising on the border.
Standard or extra strong?
Besides the classic silver cake drums, extra strong drums are also available, for example for tiered cakes. The extra strong silver boards come in Ø 15, 17.8, 20.5, 25.5, 28, 30, 30.5, 35.5, 45 and 50 cm, among others. They are the right choice when the cake is heavy, covered in fondant or facing a long journey. For lighter cakes and single-tier creations, the standard silver drums are usually perfectly sufficient.
How to build a tiered cake on silver boards
With a tiered cake, it is all about the steps: each tier is around 5 cm smaller than the one below, and the bottom board extends well beyond the cake. The many in-between sizes in silver let you plan this precisely.
- Place the bottom tier on an extra strong board that is clearly larger than the cake, for example Ø 35.5 or 45 cm.
- Put each upper tier on a thin cake circle exactly its own size so that it stays invisible.
- Support each tier with cake dowels so the weight rests on the board below rather than on the cake.
- Stack the tiers well chilled and ideally only once you arrive at the venue.
Combining with other colours and boxes
Silver is very versatile: with white and pastel cakes it looks light and fresh, with dark chocolate elegant and modern. Looking for a warmer tone? Take a look at the gold drums, which you will find alongside the white and black versions in Cake drums (thick boards). Silver boards up to Ø 30 cm fit into a 30 x 30 cm cake box from our cake packaging section; the large sizes from Ø 35.5 cm are best transported flat in the boot on a non-slip mat.
Silver boards for sales, display counters and photos
If you sell cakes or bake to order, you will appreciate silver boards for one simple reason: they suit every order. Whether a classic Black Forest gâteau, a carrot cake or an elaborate novelty cake, every piece looks neat and professional on silver. In a display counter, the shine reflects the light and draws the eye to the cake. In photos for social media or your own online shop, a silver board also adds a calm, bright frame. And with matching boards in a few standard sizes, your cakes gain a recognisable signature look.
Buying guide: choosing silver cake drums
First measure the diameter of your finished cake, including cream or fondant. Add the border you want and choose the next available size. Then think about how heavy the cake will be: with more than one tier or with fondant, the extra strong version is worth it. If you regularly bake cakes in different sizes, keep a small stock of the common 20, 25 and 30 cm sizes.
