Case types and sizes
Classic cupcake cases come smooth or fluted and in metallic shades such as gold, silver, violet, baby pink and baby blue. Tulip muffin cases with a tall, pointed rim look like they come from a bakery and are available in kraft, chocolate, white and pink. Mini cupcake cases, for example 3.2 cm or 3.5 cm in diameter, are perfect for chocolates and finger food buffets, XL muffin cases for large muffins. There are also mini cake paper cases and mixed sets such as pastel, summer colours or black, white and kraft.
Matching cases and frosting is especially effective: white cases with pastel frosting, black cases with gold sprinkles or kraft cases with chocolate cream. If you mix several colours, arrange the cupcakes on the stand as a colour gradient. This creates a rainbow or ombré effect that becomes the eye-catcher of any dessert table.
What to look for when buying
First check the size: mini, standard or XL should match your tray and recipe. Look at the number of cases per pack, which ranges from small packs of 12 to large packs of 250. For dark batters such as chocolate or red velvet, it is best to choose dark or metallic cases so that the colour stays strong after baking.
Questions about cupcake cases by colour
What is the difference between cupcake cases and tulip cases?
Cupcake cases have a low, even rim and leave room for generous frosting. Tulip cases rise above the batter with their points and give muffins a rustic bakery look.
Why does light paper turn see-through during baking?
Fat from the batter can make light paper translucent. Let the cupcakes cool on a wire rack after baking so that no condensation forms, and choose stronger colours for rich, buttery batters.
What are mini cupcake cases used for?
Mini cases are ideal for small cupcakes, chocolates, confectionery or bite-sized biscuit dough. On a dessert table they let you offer lots of different flavours to try.
