Food pen
There are 41 products.
With edible food pens you can write, draw and colour directly onto your bakes, almost as precisely as with a felt-tip pen. The pens are very easy to use on fondant, marzipan and macarons, and also on wafer paper. In this category you will find three types: food pens and food markers in black, gold and many colours, chocolate pens and chocolate-flavoured pens, plus glitter sugar pens in gold and red, a silver sugar pen and sugar writing icing in white, gold and black.
Which pen for which job?
- Dual-tip food pens: handy, because some pens in our range have two ends: a fine tip for delicate lines and a thicker one for filling areas and bold strokes. The black food pen even combines a brush tip and a fine liner.
- Colour sets: the set of 5 pens in primary colours, the 6 food colouring pens or the 8 black food markers are ideal for children's parties and bigger projects.
- Chocolate pens: they write with a chocolate flavour and come in many shades, from black, white and dark brown to pastel pink, pastel blue and pastel yellow, fuchsia, midnight blue and aqua green, individually or as a set of 10.
- Sugar pens and writing icing: ideal for writing on cakes and for shiny decorations, for example with the gold glitter sugar pen or the white sugar writing icing.
Tips for writing and drawing
When using the pens, make sure your surface is slightly dry and firm. If the fondant is still soft, the tip sinks in and leaves a groove instead of a line of colour. So let covered cakes, iced cookies or fondant plaques dry well beforehand. Sketch the design first with light pressure, then go over the lines again. On wafer paper, work quickly and without pressing.
The coloured icing and sugar pens can be used to write on almost any cake and for all kinds of decorations. The exception is cakes dusted with icing sugar, because the writing will not stick to that kind of surface. Dip chocolate pens in hot water for about 2 minutes before use so the filling melts and flows nicely; please follow the instructions on the packaging.
Ideas for your next decoration
Write names on macarons, draw faces on cake pops or outline cookies that children can colour in themselves afterwards. The gold food pen adds elegant accents to wedding cookies, while black creates crisp outlines and lettering. For Christmas sparkle, try the red glitter sugar pen and the silver sugar pen.
Food pens FAQ
Which surfaces do food pens work on?
They work best on dry, firm surfaces such as fondant, marzipan, set royal icing, macarons and wafer paper.
Can I write with sugar pens on a cake dusted with icing sugar?
No, the writing does not stick to dusted surfaces. Write on fondant, on icing or on a fondant plaque instead.
How do I store food pens so they do not dry out?
Replace the cap straight after use and store the pens lying flat, dry and away from light. Sugar pens and writing icing also keep best when dry and protected from light.
