How to make cotton candy at home
Start by preheating your machine according to the manufacturer's instructions. Pour the coloured or flavoured sugar into the centre, switch the machine on and wait for the first threads to appear. Then turn a stick slowly around the bowl so the floss wraps around it, and repeat until you have the size you want.
- Make sure the machine is fully preheated before adding sugar.
- Do not overfill the machine, to avoid spills and splatters.
- Work in a dry, warm room: humidity can make candyfloss sticky or stringy.
- Use sturdy sticks so they do not bend or break while you spin.
- Clean the machine after use as the manufacturer recommends and let it dry completely before storing it.
Serving ideas
Cotton candy is lovely on its own, but it also makes a playful topping. Place a small cloud on cupcakes or a birthday cake just before serving, add it to milkshakes or set it on top of an ice cream cone for a colourful dessert.
