How to choose the right gold candles
- Number candles for milestone birthdays: combine two digits to show the age, for example 4 and 0 for a 40th birthday. Large number candles look best on cakes 20 to 26 cm in diameter.
- Lots of small candles for a ring: sets of 10, 12 or 16 candles let you place a golden ring around the edge of the cake or show the age one candle at a time.
- Long candles for elegant cakes: extra-long, slim candles add a stylish accent to tall drip cakes and tiered cakes.
- Mix colours: gold goes well with pink, white, black and navy. Sets in pink, fuchsia and gold or gold, pink and white suit baby showers and girls' birthdays.
- Plan the effect: giant glowing candles and glitter candles create the wow moment as the cake is carried in.
Frequently asked questions
How do I secure gold number candles on the cake?
Insert the candle upright and not too close to the edge. On soft whipped cream, a small piece of fondant as a base helps the number stand firmly.
How long do the candles burn?
That depends on size and model. Light the candles just before singing and blow them out after a few minutes so no wax drips onto the cake.
Can I reuse number candles?
Yes, if they have only burned briefly. Trim the wick, wipe off any wax and store the candle in a dry place.
